Hot Sauerkraut Salad From Fredericksberg

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 pint sauerkraut
  • 1 medium sized apple, cut into small cubes
  • 1 potato, peeled, & cut into small cubes
  • 1 onion, cut into small cubes
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 2 tablespoons bacon drippings or 3 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
  • 8 hot dogs (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 place the cubed apple, potato, and onion in a saucepan along with the hot water. boil until vegetables are soft, about 10 minutes.
  • 2 add the sauerkraut or weinkraut and the bacon drippings or the bacon. cover and simmer for about 2 hours. about 10 minutes before dish is done, add the hot dogs and replace cover, if wished.
