Sugar Cookies (light & Crisp)

Total Time: 27 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 12 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, no substitutions (softened)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract or 1 teaspoon butter flavor extract
  • 2 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
  • 2 in a large mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup granulated sugar, powdered sugar, butter, and vegetable oil.
  • 3 beat in egg and extract.
  • 4 add next 4 ingredients and mix together. the dough will be somewhat soft. refrigerate a few minutes if too soft to work with.
  • 5 shape into 1-inch balls and roll in reserved 1/2 cup of granulated sugar.
  • 6 place on an ungreased cookie sheet and flatten with the bottom of a glass that has been dipped in granulated sugar (or colored sugar if you prefer).
  • 7 bake at 350°f for 10-12 minutes.
  • 8 note: cookies should be only very slightly browned. they will be a more of a light golden color.
