Men's Health Southwest Sloppy Joes

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 medium red onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup celery, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger puree
  • 1 teaspoon minced jalapeno
  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1/2 cup diced canned tomato
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 ounce jim bean whiskey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 4 -6 sandwich buns
  • 8 -12 iceburg lettuce leaves
  • 4 -6 tablespoons guacamole

Recipe

  • 1 heat a large saucepan over high heat. add the oil and swirl to coat. add the onions, celery, ginger, and jalapenos. saute until soft, about 2 minutes.
  • 2 add the lamb and brown lightly.
  • 3 add the tomatoes, barbecue sauce (i used billy bee), whiskey, soy sauce and lime juice. bring to a simmer and cook stirring occasionally for 15-20 minutes or until mixture will mound sloppy-joe-style.
  • 4 toast the rolls. on the bottom half, place a leaf of lettuce, then scoop on the lamb mixture. top with lettuce, guacamole, and the top half of the roll.
  • 5 great with a pint of light beer.
