chocolate jumbo

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 48 walnut halves

Recipe

  • preheat oven to 375 degrees f (190 degrees c).
  • cream shortening and sugar together. add egg and molasses, mix well.
  • sift together dry ingredients, add to shortening mixture, alternating with hot water. mix well.
  • drop by rounded teaspoons ungreased cookie sheet. bake 8-10 minutes. remove from cookie sheet, cool. frost with butter frosting and top each cookie with a walnut.
