Old-fashioned Congress Cake

Ingredients

• 2 cups diced green apples
• 1 cup molasses
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 egg, lightly beaten
• 3/4 cup shortening
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1 cup milk
• 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
• 2 1/2 cups flour

Recipe

• 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
• 2 cook apples in molasses until thick; cool.
• 3 add remaining ingredients; mix well. spread in 9 inch square pan. bake in preheated 350°f oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until cake tests done.
