- 1 cup dry lentils, rinsed
- 2 slices bacon, diced
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup chopped carrots
- 8 cups water
- 2 cups canned tomatoes
- 1 bay leaf
- 6 frankfurters, sliced
- salt to taste
- ground black pepper to taste

Cook Time: 1 hr
- saute bacon and onion.
- place lentils, bacon, onion, celery, carrots, water or stock, tomatoes, and bay leaf together in a large pot and simmer until tender, about 45 minutes.
- add sliced wieners and salt and pepper to taste, and continue cooking for about 10 minutes.
