Chili 'n Bread

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 25 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (26 ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 (14 ounce) can red kidney beans
  • 1 (14 ounce) can black beans
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 4 bread boules (purchased)
  • hot sauce or tabasco sauce
  • salt & pepper
  • 4 ounces cheddar cheese, grated

Recipe

  • 1 pour olive oil in large saucepan, brown ground beef over med heat.
  • 2 add onion and garlic, cook until onion is soft (~5min).
  • 3 add marinara sauce and water.
  • 4 bring to a boil then turn down to simmer and add beans. add salt, pepper, cumin and chili powder and simmer until mixture thickens.

  • 6 bring to a boil then transfer mixture to a crock pot. add beans, salt, pepper, cumin and chili powder and cook on high for 4 hours.
  • 7 add hot sauce if desired.
  • 8 serve in a bread bowl.
  • 9 top with grated cheddar cheese.
